Altering magnetic properties of iron filament PLA using magnetic field assisted additive manufacturing (MFAAM)

Three different samples of soft magnetic material Proto-pasta, a composite iron and polylactic acid (PLA), were printed in the presence field then measured using vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) to inspect effects printing has on samples’ properties. Multiple hysteresis measurements taken with respect angle for each various fields observe changes loss susceptibility. The Fe/PLA composites Magnetic Field Assisted Additive Manufacturing (MFAAM) displayed susceptibility approximately twice as large zero field.
